Description of Measure
Several questions about the youth's offending are asked of the subject at baseline, including arrest history, past stays in a secure setting, age at first secure confinement and current charges. This information is based on self-report and is best used in conjunction with the official record information compiled from court record reviews in each site along with Federal Bureau of Investigation files. This official information is contained in a separate set of measures under the heading of "Official Court Records".
The following items are available for this measure:
- Number of times been arrested in lifetime [S0OffHx0]
- Age first time arrested [S0OffHx1]
- Receive a summons or letter telling you to appear in court [S0OffHxA]
- Age first time received a summons [S0OffHxB]
- Whether locked up in a detention center/jail before the arrest/summons that led to study participation [S0OffHx2]
- Number of times locked up in a detention center/jail before arrest/summons that led to study participation [S0OffHx3]
- Age first time locked up in a detention center/jail [S0OffHx4]
- How many people did this (the crime that brought subject to the institution) with you [S0OffCu2]
- Did subject have a gun when committed the offense that brought them to the institution [S0OffCu3]
- Was subject under the influence of drugs/alcohol when committed the offense [S0OffCu4]
- Is subject currently in any court-ordered supervision programs [S0OffHx6]
Data Issues
- Items s0OffhxA and s0OffhxB were added to the interview in version 01.05.
- Items s0OffhxA (receive summons) and s0OffhxB (age first received summons) are only asked if the subject has never been arrested (s0Offhx0 = zero).
