Description of Measure
The Community Involvement scale (Elliot, 1990) was modified for this study to assess the adolescent's involvement in structured community activities. Scores indicate the extent of the adolescent's involvement in four different community organizations (e.g., sports teams, scouts, church related groups, and volunteer work).
Two scores are calculated:
- Involvement in community activities [s0comin]; count of endorsed activities, independent of recency
- Involvement in community activities [s0com6mo]; count of endorsed activities in which the youth has been involved during the past six months
Each of these scales can range from 0 through 4, with higher scores on these scales indicating more community involvement.
